Sailing Classes

 What you will learn:

·         Basics of water safety

·         Rules of the water

·         Weather conditions

·         Sailing basics

·         Essential sailing terminology and techniques

·         Key terms, equipment, and parts of any sailing vessel

If you have ever longed to be the master of your own ship, then we have an opportunity for you this summer. In June, Akron Fossils and Science Center will be offering a Learn To Sail class. This class is designed for beginners who would like to learn the basics of sailing. Come join in us as we set sail on a new adventure!

2024 LEARN TO SAIL CLASS

The course, which will be taught by AFSC Founder and former Masters National Champion for the Interlake Sailing Class Association, Bill Sanderson, will focus on the rigging of the Sunfish sailboat, a very popular international boat that is raced and used widely as a rental and recreational boat. These boats, made available through Mohican Sailing Club, will be used for the final on-water class.

Two Indoor Class Sessions | Tuesdays, May 21st and May 28th at 6PM

One 4 Hour On-Water Lesson | Week of June 3rd, Weather Permitting

Cost: $70.00

All ages (7 & up) and experience levels are welcome.

SAILING CAMPS

Akron Fossils and Science Center is pleased to endorse Mohican Sailing Club’s Summer Sailing Camps for 2024. These camps are designed to introduce beginners to the joy of sailing, but please read the info on Mohican Sailing Club’s website for a detailed description. Each session is one week, meeting daily from 9am to 3:30pm and held at Mohican Sailing Club. All ages (7 & up) and experience levels are welcome.

 4 sessions available:

·         Week 1 June 3-7

·         Week 2 June 10-14

·         Week 3. June 24-28

·         Week 4 July 8-12

Cost: $250 per week
